Notes From Austin
- While looking through my previous assorted thoughts, I am quoted as saying, "The extended trailer for 'The Spirit' is also out now. The trailer looks kinda goofy, but as a die-hard Spirit fan, I promise that if you just wait it out and see the movie you won't be disappointed." I'm sorry to report that I was at least half wrong, and apologize for giving you false optimism. 'The Spirit' was a decent movie, but it definitely wasn't a fourth as great as I had hoped it would be and I had lead you to believe. And for that I apologize.
- In my infinite pursuit of finding a job, I've applied to a few places, but I've taken a job doing substitute teaching for the after school program I used to work with prior to September of this year. The difference this time is, I'm a few months out of practice, I've got a sore shoulder from winter-related biffing and it's a full day shift for the entire week, meaning I'm going to have to be
Johnny Action. I guarantee tomorrow night I'll be tired as heck and probably a little cranky. It'll be awesome seeing the kids again, though.
- Tomorrow also begins my attempt at getting back into shape. I'm not necessarily out of shape, but when your body can best be described as 'a consistent panda bear shape', it's probably time to get going. The fact that this coincides with a week of the aforementioned Johnny Action-style teaching will probably give me a heart attack, or SUPERHUMAN STRENGTH. Keep reading to find out.
- So I got a spiffy new ukulele for Christmas to compliment (replace?) my soprano ukulele. Let me be the one to say it, hurf durf, ukulele. It's a guitar, but a thousand times cuter and easier to transport. They rule. AND, this one's got fantastic sound. I'm going to replace the strings and see if I can get something a little deeper, but it's a fantastic little tenor with an even more fantastic sound. The only problem is, the little metal tuner knobs at the top of the headboard don't stay quite so tight, so my strings very gradually de-tune over a period of an hour. This consistently throws me off every time I pick up my little buddy for a jam and strike a chord to realize it sounds like garbage.
- The offer on the new place goes in tomorrow (if all goes well). Wish me/us luck in securing swanky, more affordable digs.
- Which means I'll have to paint a brand new room, which means I need to decide on colors for a new room. An electric blue would be awesome, and since I don't foresee me changing personalities so dramatically that I begin to hate bright colors, it might not be a bad decision. My current yellow ceiling has been spiffy, as well as the blue walls. Take the plunge into sheer brightly colored lunacy? Don't mind if I do.
- As mentioned earlier, the job hunt is still on. E-mail me them hot leads, people. Well-intentioned pointless blogs don't pay the way they used to.
