We're keeping it thematically gay in here with another news story: that of a fifth grader in Arkansas who won't stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Why? Because he thinks we've forgotten about that 'liberty and justice for all' part.
First off, this kid is amazing. I don't care if you agree or disagree with him; he's formed an opinion and he's sticking to his guns. Elementary school kids can barely decide if Miley Cyrus or Hannah Montana is the better performer, let alone stick to their decision to stand up for civil rights.
More importantly, though, he's critically reviewing something that, as an elementary school student, he was expected to accept and go along with. This is something that High School graduates have a hard time doing, and he's doing it in Elementary School. You have to respect the kid, and the parents that raised him, for his dedication to not only his beliefs, but of critical thinking and reasoning.
We need more people in this country like this kid. If we could all just stand up to the idiots, and the bigots, and the hate-mongers, our country (and the world) would be a much better place.
Good on you, kid!
