Carrie Prejean and the Mystery of the Inappropriate Interview

Posted by Austin on 3:34 PM in ,
I love interviews.

I also love it when interviews go wrong.

Here's a fantastic example, as the hypocritical 'I have good Christian values, just ignore my porn tape' Carrie Prejean gives an interview to Larry King.

For those who don't follow the interview circuit, an interview with Larry King is like being sweetly tucked into bed. He doesn't ask controversial questions, and he doesn't even push for answers. So when Mr. Prejean decides to end the interview here, you have to ask -- did she misunderstand the question? Is she just not that smart? Either way, it's a delightful moment to see a very confused Larry King wonder how he's being 'inappropriate'.

Now, this got me thinking: how severe is your logical disconnect when you get into something like this? I would think that, should I become a very public spokeperson for traditional beliefs, I would need to have a relatively clean background.

In what world can you make a porn tape of yourself, and then tell others that your morals are superior to theirs? I mean, you can't proclaim your body 'is a temple' (as Prejean does in the introduction to her book) and then also say, Oh, but I made a smutty movie. What does that qualify as? Defacing the temple? And if you're doing that, who are you to stand in judgment of other people?

Look, free internet tip to any interested parties. If you're going to be a public spokesperson for something, make sure you're not carrying any ugly secrets that go directly against the thing you're representing.

Ugh.
